Whether we are home or away, ADT Customer Monitoring Centers are keeping tabs on the house and also in communication with local police if detecting a burglary. Of course, no system can stop someone from trying to get into the house but, with ADT monitoring, there is a better chance of either making them leave or catching the thief in the act.

SURVEILLANCE

ADT offers the option of camera surveillance not monitored by ADT. This way, the monitoring personnel can see what’s going on and even use speakers in the house to tell someone to leave. What we decided would work best is two cameras watching the outside of the front and back of the house. The monitors can see who’s approaching the property. The options are all up to us how much we want and how much might be too much. Again, we like the idea of knowing the house is being monitored, and it’s just another layer of security for a criminal to breach.

FIRE

The security system installation procedure included smoke detectors wired into the monitoring system. If fire breaks out in the house, not only do we get an alarm to awaken and warn us, but the fire department is almost simultaneously contacted. ADT will contact us if the alarm sounds but, if we don’t answer and give a reason that it’s a false alarm, the fire department will be on its way. We really like this because it helps protect our home when we are there and especially if we are away. Even when no one is home, ADT keeps an eye on things and will alert the first responders when there’s trouble.

INJURY

Although we don’t have cameras installed inside the house (only outside), ADT customers can decide if an interior camera is a good way to monitor for injuries. This is an especially good idea if there are small children in the home, physically disabled residents, and older family members. If someone suffers some sort of serious injury, ADT personnel can contact the home to determine the injured person's condition or immediately dispatch emergency services. It’s a great way to have peace of mind if anyone is home alone.

DETERRENCE

The best thing to happen is for nothing to happen. The ADT yard sign and window decals are a clear warning around the property that ADT is monitoring our house; we know many passing burglars will keep on driving. That’s a great feeling. Every month, we pay a small fee to ADT to help keep things safe, and we know we are getting our money’s worth with another uneventful month. Although ADT monitoring might not prevent a fire or a natural disaster, it can certainly work to help prevent fire or someone’s injury from becoming more serious with precious time wasted waiting for help.
